1st Grade MVP Award Report
Date of Event : Tue Mar 5, 2019 2:02PM

Sheffield maintained its grip on second position with an outright win over Wynyard in Round 20.  However, Ulverstone remained within striking distance of a top two finish following their outright win over Latrobe.  The Burnie Hurricanes continue to occupy first position on the ladder following their first innings win over fourth-placed Devonport.

Mountaineers skipper Marc Simonds produced a remarkable bowling performance in Round 20, scoring a massive 257 points against Wynyard.  The leg spinner claimed 4/16 in the first innings and backed it up with a career-best 7/28 in the second to destroy the Blues batting line-up.  He also chimed in with 17 runs in the Sheffield innings.  Simonds will not receive a Hursey Seafoods voucher on this occasion, as he has already received the individual maximum of two for the season.

This week’s $100 Hursey Seafoods dine-in voucher goes to Ulverstone all-rounder Jacob Snare.  The Black Caps Coach scored 174 points in his team’s outright win over Latrobe thanks to a good performance with the ball.  The left arm spinner claimed 2/5 and 5/40 against the Demons, along with making 14 runs with the bat.

Other outstanding performances came from the Burnie Hurricanes James Odgers, who scored 156 points after making a maiden 1st Grade century.  Latrobe spinner Blake Weeks scored 126 points through a solid all-round performance against Ulverstone, while Wynyard teenager Mason Hodgetts scored 121 points after recording his maiden five-wicket haul in 1st Grade cricket.  Callan Morse (Latrobe), Sam Robinson (Sheffield) and Kurt Lamprey (Burnie Hurricanes) also scored over 100 points in the round.

Sheffield’s Marc Simonds looks to have the overall Hursey Seafoods 1st Grade MVP Award sewn up with one round remaining, extending his lead to 230.5 points.  Burnie Hurricanes all-rounder Kurt Lamprey is in second, 67 points clear of Ulverstone’s Callum Wheeler, who in turn has team-mate Jacob Snare and Devonport’s Anish Paraam nipping at his heels.  Brady Yates (Burnie Hurricanes) rounds out the top six.
