1st Grade MVP Award Report
Date of Event : Mon Dec 24, 2018 2:02PM

Last Saturday’s Round 11 matches brought an end to the Greater Northern Cup One-Day roster.   A double bonus point win over Latrobe propelled the Burnie Hurricanes into the Semi-Finals, narrowly edging out Sheffield, who recorded a fighting 20-run win over Wynyard.  Devonport put an end to Ulverstone’s dreams of a home One-Day Semi-Final with a five-wicket victory at home.

Devonport super import Anish Paraam produced the round’s best individual performance, scoring 109 points.  Paraam bowled a tidy spell of 2/31 from 10 overs, and was the mainstay of the Orions batting innings, making 64 from 109 balls (8 fours).  The all-rounder will receive this week’s $100 Hursey Seafoods dine-in voucher.

Other notable performances came from Sheffield captain Marc Simonds and Burnie Hurricanes all-rounder Brady Yates.  Simonds scored 97 points in the Mountaineers win over Wynyard, making 32 runs with the bat and claiming 3/24 with the ball.  Yates scored 91 points thanks to a fighting 26 in a crucial partnership with James Odgers, before cleaning up the Latrobe tail with 3/3 from 2.2 overs.

Wynyard paceman Marcus Gee (88 points) and Burnie Hurricanes batsman James Odgers (81 points) also produced impressive performances in the last match prior to the Christmas break.

Anish Paraam extended his lead at the top of the overall Hursey Seafoods 1st Grade MVP Award leader board, 99.5 points clear of Sheffield’s Marc Simonds, who jumped up from fourth to second.  Devonport’s Samuel O’Mahony, the Burnie Hurricanes Josh Barry and Ulverstone’s Jacob Snare round out the top five.

Big points will be on offer in the second half of the season, as we move into Two-Day cricket.
