Cricket North West is excited to be launching a new competition, with Round 1 of the Men's Division 3 T20 roster to commence tomorrow night (January 12).
This format of cricket is aimed at those who are new to the game, returning after a break, or balancing other commitments. This roster will aim to convert some players to other CNW senior grades, whilst also providing an alternative shorter fixture for social players. Whilst playing for points, all matches are expected to be played in a social and friendly spirit.
The Burnie Hurricanes, Devonport, Sheffield, Ulverstone and Wynyard will be participating in this inaugural competition, with the majority of matches to be played at 6.00 pm on Saturday nights. Roster games will be played over three weeks (January 12, January 19 and February 2), with a Grand Final to be played between the top two teams on Saturday February 9.
All matches are in the T20 format, with batters to retire at 30 balls, and teams encouraged to give everyone the chance to bowl a couple of overs.
The teams named for Round 1 include former 1st Grade Batting Award winner Gregg Sharman, current Wynyard CC President Clayton Hawkins, former 2nd Grade Player of the Year Dylan Costelloe, rising Female Competition star Abbey Hawkins, and former Collingwood AFL rookie and North West Thunder star Ben Richmond.
Wynyard will play host to the Burnie Hurricanes, while Sheffield welcomes Devonport in tomorrow night's games. Ulverstone has the Round 1 bye.
We welcome all players, whether they are returning to their former club or new to CNW cricket. This competition should be a lot of fun!
